We invested heavily in research to establish and address common pain points faced by the outdoor gym equipment market. We asked stakeholders at councils, community groups, playground and park facility suppliers, indoor commercial gym suppliers, holiday parks and urban planning specialists, what the problems were and what they wanted from an outdoor gym product.

Designed by industry professionals

GymGuru’s equipment is designed by specialist engineers using the highest quality materials to maximise longevity, reduce maintenance and ensure it’s safe. This means our clients can have high confidence in the suitability of their investment and the equipment can be relied upon to last.

Continued development of our innovative equipment involves a number of well-known New Zealand organisations, each of which have recognised and supported the potential for the product to enhance community well-being and environments.

  • NZ Ministry of Science & Innovation (Callaghan Innovation Group)
  • New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE)
  • Katabolt – resident within the ICEHOUSE Network
  • Sports Performance Research Institute (SPRINZ), an institute of AUT University
  • AXIA Design – experts in engineering & computer based modelling
  • Baldwin’s Intellectual Property Attorneys
  • EMC Ltd specialist consultants in engineering design and safety

Designed to a set of agreed exercise principles targeting the four key areas of general wellbeing and fitness, the product range includes units designed for:

Cardio – the ability of the heart, lungs and organs to consume, transport and utilize oxygen. Regular exercise can increase cardiovascular fitness as the heart becomes more efficient at pumping blood and oxygen to the body, and the body becomes more efficient at using that oxygen.

Strength – the extent to which muscles can exert force by contracting against resistance. Strength training has several key benefits including bone density, injury prevention, boosts immunity and aids weight management.

Flexibility – the ability of a joint to move through its full range of motion. Stretching increases production of glycoaminoglycans, gel-like substances which help prevent muscle fibers sticking together. This assists a fuller, pain-free range of movement. Glycoaminoglycans also help repair collagen which protect and cushions joints.

Balance – the ability to maintain equilibrium against the force of gravity. Key benefits of balance training include increased coordination, increased sense of awareness and the body’s ability to control complex movements.

Fit for purpose materials

From experience we know raw material selection is critical to consistently producing durable products that meet customer lifecycle and warranty periods. GymGuru only selects suppliers and materials of the highest quality.

  • Plastic coverings – Injection moulded plastic products are made from polyethylene. Each part is UV stabilised to the highest available rating of UV8. Our plastic supplier holds accreditations including ISO14001, ISO9001:2008 and OEM Tier1 automotive industry supplier
  • Handle & leg construction – Zinc metal arc-spray with ChemBar 900 sealer. ChemBar 900 is an aluminium pigmented sealer for added corrosion protection
  • Signage – 3M scotch wrap film series 1080, trusted by leading car manufacturers as the new standard in wrap films
  • Side extrusions – 6060 T5 architectural alloy
  • Chassis construction – 5mm thick carbon steel and hot dipped galvanised

Extensive Product Testing

At GymGuru we submit our products to a series of extensive tests. This includes independently assessed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in the design phase, through to strenuous load testing of prototypes and product completions. Our load testing program enables us to offer significant warranty terms, 10 years on non-moving parts and 3 years on moving components.

Highlights of stress testing include:

  • Over 1,000,000 continuous swing movements at 1 second intervals
  • Each swing movement is tested at the heaviest level of resistance
  • 860 hours of continuous stress and load testing
  • No mechanical or part failure
  • Bicycle bio-mechanics analysed by the Sports Performance Research Institute NZ (SPRINZ), an institute of AUT University

Independent Expert Assessment

At every stage of concept and development GymGuru has engaged with independent experts to ensure verification of design and manufacture. GymGuru is proud to be independently reviewed and assessed at all levels of its operation.

Premium Quality Robust Design

A key difference with GymGuru is that it is built to last. Our equipment is designed by specialist engineers who have over 30 years experience manufacturing sports equipment. They use only the highest quality materials to ensure the equipment meets durability expectations, requires lower maintenance, is safe for all users, is simple to use and is visually appealing. Our engineers have proven capability in precision fit-for-purpose exercise tools with strong visual appeal, based on a low volume, high quality production output.

All GymGuru products and componentry are 100% New Zealand made.

Unique & Innovative Technology

GymGuru equipment utilises a patented internal mechanism that allows users of all abilities to easily and safely adjust to the desired level of resistance, regardless of strength and body type. Due to the adjustable resistance the user self-defines their workout effort regardless of their age, body type and physical condition. The range of resistance fulfils the needs of individuals with all abilities using the same equipment – just like in the gym.
